Grohe spares for thermostatic mixers

The temperature control requires a thermostatic cartridge. Most Grohe thermostats are based upon an expanding/contracting wax element

The flow control required will depend upon whether the mixer can feed two outlets (eg bath and shower or 2x shower outlets) or only one outlet (eg shower).  The cartridge for flow to two outlets will usually incorporate a diverter (aquadimmer) function which allows it to turn in both clockwise and anticlockwise directions from a central off position. Most flow cartridges are based upon ceramic disk technology requiring only a part turn to be fully on, a few are based upon conventional screwdown valves requiring multi turns. Often the only difference between mixers feeding two outlets and those controlling one outlet is the flow cartridge and the flow handle.

Replacement handles and other parts are also available for most models

Many concealed (built in) Grohe showers were originally made up of two components,  the face plate/handles (usually beginning 19xxx)  and the hidden body (usually beginning 34xxx or 35500)

A BRIEF HISTORY

- up to about the end of 2005 the most popular built in Grohe showers had an oval faceplate from Grohtherm 1000, Grohtherm 3000, Grohtherm Auto 2000, Europlus or Sentosa ranges. Alongside these were Avensys, Grohsafe, Taron, Tenso, Chiara Ectos, Atrio Jota and Atrio Ypsilon ranges which were mostly round plates

- from 2006 the Grohtherm 1000, 2000 and 3000 ranges switched to having a round faceplate with new handles.  A more modern looking version of the Avensys range was also introduced.

- in 2009 virtually all Grohe built in showers went over to use a common body in the wall (Rapido 35500). The Rapido body in the wall is surrounded by a blue plastic plaster guard which can be helpful for identifying the correct spare parts.  Whereas previous built in bodies contained both the thermostatic and flow cartridges, the Rapido body includes only the thermostatic cartridge and the appropriate flow cartridge comes with the faceplate chosen and screws into the Rapido body.
