Back to wall pans have flexible connectors to the water supply and the waste.  They are then pushed back against the wall and secured to the wall and floor.

This gives a clean look with no visible connections

This style usually has a "top fit" seat to allow replacement without too much hassle. The water cistern is concealed in the wall and operated via a flush plate or button (manual or electronic sensor).
